Penghu County to Receive Silver-Level Certification for Low-carbon and Sustainable Homeland Project Performance from Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan

    On the afternoon of the 2nd, Penghu County Magistrate Kuangfu Chen presented awards to the following communities for their bronze-level certification in the Low-carbon and Sustainable Homeland Project: "Magong City," "Magong City Guangrong Village," "Magong City Chongguang Village," "Magong City Guanghua Village," and "Beiliao Village, Huxi Township." Magistrate Kuangfu Chen commended these communities for their outstanding performance and presented certificates as tokens of commendation.

    Magistrate Kuangfu Chen emphasized that low-carbon sustainable development holds great importance for the county government. Penghu County has achieved the highest recognition in the certification system by receiving the silver-level certification for the 2022 Low-carbon and Sustainable Homeland certification from the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan. Additionally, out of the 96 communities in Penghu, an impressive 82 communities have already participated in this certification system, resulting in an overall participation rate of 85.4%.

    Magistrate Kuangfu Chen emphasized the importance of recognizing that there is only one Earth, and Penghu is part of it. He urged residents to cultivate good habits such as turning off lights when not in use, utilizing public transportation more frequently, practicing recycling, and using environmentally friendly tableware. By incorporating these practices into their daily lives, carbon emissions can be reduced, the effects of greenhouse gasses and climate change can be mitigated, and energy conservation and carbon reduction can become a nationwide movement, ultimately contributing to a sustainable environment.

    The Environmental Protection Bureau has announced that Penghu established the Low-carbon and Sustainable Homeland Project Office in 2014 as a dedicated organization to promote low-carbon sustainable homes. Alongside consolidating the county government's accomplishments in low-carbon construction, the office holds interdepartmental meetings to adjust policy directions and facilitate the substantial implementation of environmental projects in collaboration with communities. Penghu's silver-level recognition in the county and city level certification for low-carbon sustainable homes signifies notable achievements. These include a green coverage rate of 44%, the removal of 400,000 meters of underwater nets, a recycling rate of 50.53%, and an annual reduction of 410,000 disposable food containers.

    The bronze-level certification was awarded to "Magong City," "Magong City Guangrong Village," "Magong City Chongguang Village," "Magong City Guanghua Village," and "Beiliao Village, Huxi Township" following a thorough review process conducted by the Environmental Protection Administration. These communities implemented various projects, including "regional green beautification," "promotion of green walls or hedges," "promotion of permeable pavement," "promotion of energy-efficient lighting," "promotion of low-carbon sustainable education and publicity," "low-carbon sustainable voluntary training," and "promotion of recycling and re-use.
