The Penghu County Government announced on the 21st the launching of COVID-19 rapid antigen testing services for eligible citizens at home, whereby the elderly living alone and long-term bedridden residents who have the need for rapid testing can make an appointment to accept rapid testing at home. The Penghu County Public Health Bureau will assign nursing staff to conduct rapid screening at the applicant’s residence.

The Penghu County Government pointed out that the "COVID-19 Home Rapid Testing Team" is composed of nurses from the Third Public Health Center in Magong City. Elderly people living alone and those bedridden for a long time who have a need for rapid testing can call the hotline 06-9211723 during office hours from Monday to Friday to make an appointment for rapid testing services at home.

It further added that the Third Public Health Center usually provides "Routine Home Healthcare" (居家巡迴醫療) house call services. In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, whereby many elderly people who live alone or those that are bedridden have demand for rapid testing due to coming into contact with confirmed patients and exhibited symptoms, but the patients or their families are not familiar with the rapid screening process. Therefore, the Third Public Health Center has taken the initiative to form a "COVID-19 Home Rapid Testing Team" to provide convenient house call services.

The Penghu County Government noted that recently a 90-year-old grandmother in Magong City, originally identified as subject to home quarantine, exhibited coughing, nasal discharge and other symptoms. As she and her family members did not know how to use rapid testing kits, her relatives contacted the Third Public Health Center for assistance.

In consideration for the advanced age of the subject, and to stabilize the mood of the person involved and their families, after receiving the call, the Center immediately dispatched two nurses to the elderly subject’s residence to provide rapid testing services. The results turned out positive and the case patient was subjected to home-based care and is now recovering well.
