County Magistrate Lai Feng-Wei promotes a mini zoo to create a conservation teaching site.
Penghu County Government 2020-09-01 162
The Penghu County Government has constructed a mini zoo at the Penghu Recreation Area. Penghu County Magistrate Lai Feng-Wei said while inspecting the area planning on the 1st that the mini zoo occupying 2 hectares is intended to display peacocks, tortoises, rabbits, musk pigs, and squirrels, etc. In addition, an ambulance medical area will be set up as the conservation teaching site.

According to the Agriculture and Fisheries Penghu County Government, the mini zoo is scheduled to be set up at the Penghu Recreation Area. The area is 2 hectares in size. The initial plan includes setting up an indoor animal area and an ambulance medical area. Additionally, small ponds are built on low-lying land to provide animals with a space for activities. Veterinarians and technicians are also designated to be in charge of providing medical treatment to sick animals, managing the area facilities, observing animal environment cleanliness, and feeding them.

According to the Agriculture and Fisheries Penghu County Government, due to Penghu’s geographical environment, the northeast monsoon in winter has a certain impact on the types of species raised. Species demonstrating high environmental adaptability are the top choices. Secondly, other than the outdoor display area, an indoor space offering shelter from the wind and rain should also be created for the species.

According to County Magistrate Lai Feng-Wei, the Penghu Recreation Area measures 60 hectares in total area, which includes the Chrysanthemum Garden, the Nelumbo nucifera Pond , the Nelumbo nucifera Gaertn Pond, the Water and Soil Conservation Outdoor Classroom, the Tianren Lake, Shuanglungtan, Shuanghu Garden, Flower and Sea Landscape, and Little Egret Pond, etc. Together they make up a diverse and rich natural ecological park that adds new highlights to recreation.
