Penghu County Forestry and Park Management Center Director Chiu Tsung-Yi reported on “Penghu County’s park green space implementation results” at the council affairs meeting held on the 4th. Lai Feng-Wei said that in the future, parks can combine multi-colored landscape shrubs and flowers to add the diversity of plant colors and landscape art to enhance cultural and artistic qualities and transform the city’s image.

Chiu Tsung-Yi stressed that within the three urban planning areas of Magong, Suogang, and Tongliang, there is an average for 14.85 square meters of park green spaces per person. This figure is higher than the average value of 10.98 square meters for Wenshan District, Taipei City. Each Penghu County resident enjoys 14.85 square meters of park green space, ranking 3rd in the nation.

According to Chiu Tsung-Yi, since commencement in 2002, 1,045 areas of Ching Ching Park have been completed. With the total area reaching 122.7 hectares, the Ching Ching Park plan has been upgraded into Ching Ching Community. Adhering to the four principles of No Dirt, No Mess, No Torn Items, and No Rotten Items, the planting leveling and beautification are enriched to strengthen the park, green space, and space green corridor by the roadside.

Chiu Tsung-Yi said that at Ching Ching Community, in addition to continuing Ching Ching Park’s landscape greening, disaster migration, city area-range improvement, and other functions, suitable locations have been selected. Multi-color landscape shrubs and flowers combined with graphics or lines, a small landscape garden have been created. Meanwhile, greening and activation of idle spaces in the community have been strengthened to highlight the community area.

According to Magistrate Lai Feng-Wei, 426 blocks of “Ching Ching Park” have been completed over his 8-year term in office. Old dormitories were demolished and reconstructed into parks, creating 65 hectares of green space and over a million trees planted. The green coverage has risen from 6% to 44%. In particular, for the postal and telecommunications dormitory in front of Magong Elementary School, 2,500 square meters of green space have been completed after the county government team’s perseverance in communication and negotiation over the past five years. Additionally, the CNPS gas station nearby has also been turned into a park for violinists where public violin works of art have been set up.

Lai Feng-Wei said that over the past year, there have been many dirty spots along the No. 203 and No. 204 County Highway. The greening and beautification from Magong to the airport have been significantly improved. He hopes one to two blocks will undergo environmental greening every month to turn the “Ching Ching Park” into the “Ching Ching Community.” He also encourages communities to engage in greening work, modify the home environment, and set up landscape works of art to model after Japan’s Hakone Park. This will in turn add an artistic disposition to the urban culture.
