Penghu county cultural bureau
Penghu county cultural bureau, started as "Penghu library", was established in July 12th, 1932. After restoration, government has taken over and changed its name to "Penghu public education hall and library". In March 1949, the name was changed into "Penghu social education work team". In August, the name was changed to "Penghu county library". The address was once changed to Shude road in Magong city and then to Jhihping road.
In 1966, new building was constructed in Jhongjheng road, no.55. In 1981, August, it was mover to its present location and merged into Penghu county cultural center. In 2000, January 1st, Penghu county cultural center has benn reformed and became the Penghu cultural bureau. It is located in the Jhongjheng park on Jhonghua road in Magong city. The measure of the area is about 5 hectares, and the main building was constructed in January, 1980 and officially opened on 24th, October 1981. The main building includes: Jhongjheng library(1942 ping), historical relics exhibition hall(914 ping), performance hall(2344 ping), science hall(555 ping), and Erdai art hall(300 ping). On 29th, April 2001, all halls will be connected with the outdoor space to become a cultural park to be officially opened. This will provide public a great recreation park to come with happiness and leave with happiness.
Pengnan branch library
By collecting the total amount of 3.6 million by the county to construct all building and hardware, after 3 years of work, eventually on 11th, March 2003, the pengnan branch library was opened. This is a carry-out of one of county magistrate Lai’s policy to balance city and country cultural education resources. We need to thank Suogang people for their enthusiasm and sacrifices. Also we thank county assembly president, former president and all members for their great help. The first floor is the library, and it includes: information counter, book area, reference periodicals, audio and vedio room, reading room, children’s room, offices, meeting room, book reservation room, paper reading room and restrooms. The second floor is the multi-function conference room.
There are elevators for handicapped friends to use. There are outdoor area, parking lots, and yard open views. We open from 9-12am, 2-5pm, 7-9pm every Wednesday to Sunday. The reading room opens from 9-9. We close on every Monday and Tuesday. We also close on national holidays and every last Thursday in the month. Penghu Reclamation hall
Penghu Reclamation hall was once the house for commanding officers of Pneghu hall at times when Taiwan was still under the power of Japanese people. It was also the house of Pneghu county magistrate after restoration. Its construction was completed on 10th, March 1935. It was the same kind of Japanese building as county government building called "mixed style of Japanese and western styles". It was a solid construction with delicate design and quiet yard.
After 1992, the house was once deserted for being too old. But then in 1999, the government restored it and changed it to the "Penghu Reclamation hall" to make it the first stop for tourists to know Pneghu.
In the hall we display historical relics in 8 display areas. They are, by order, history, immigrants, traffic, villages, war, politics and economics, cultural and educational development and current constructions. All these tell how ancient people start to live in this county. We open every Tuesday to Sunday from 9-12am, 2-5pm. Cultural bureau-ocean recources hall
Penghu is a county with simple people and rich ocean resources. Therefore, when the cultural construction committee plans to help all counties and cities to establish their feature halls, the ocean culture of Penghu certainly becomes a focus of all people. Then comes the ocean resources hall to present people the local ocean resources of Penghu. It was opened on 24th, December 1994.
Except for the multimedia project room to play "country of wind"and "country of basalt"regularly, this hall also possesses rich picture and explainations to introduce features of ocean resources in Penghu. They are: Penghu ocean culture history, ocean creatures evolution history, coral and coral reefs, creatures resources in between-tide zones, introduction on geology and landforms, ocean creatures resources square, ocean knowledge square.
Erdai art hall
The county government provided a land more than 300 pings in the county cultural park to build this two-dai art hall with its construction and design fee paid by Mr. Two-dai for the amount of 10 millions. This hall will be used by Mr.two-dai for his art creation and will be used by county government after Mr.two-dai passed away. All works in the hall belong to the county government and this is also the first case of BOT in Taiwan.
This hall is also named "art slave house"and was opened on 28th, September 1990. it has brought artistic phenomena for Penghu. In the hall, within the open and bright space, works of Mr.two-dai are displayed on both first and second floor. His works include Chinese paintings, oil paintings, potery works, poetry, literature, and seal cutting. Outdoors are his poetry and articles engraved on stones and huge sculptures displayed. At the basement, his works of potery are beautifully presented.
Ya-lun mottle stone display hall
Ya-lun mottle stone display hall is located in the a little street in the dong-wei village in Magong city. It was established on 31th, October 1990. The founder was a mottle stone collector named Wu-jian Lu and this hall occupies 200 pings. In the hall displays more than 100 mottle stones and collections of the founder for more than 10 years. This is a hall with complete hardware and software equipment. Detailed and systematic introduction about how mottle stonrs are formed, the place of origin, features, original appearances and processing steps are provided. Also there have TV presentation room, recreation area, display room, factory and parking lots provided.
Zhu-cheng-wen memorial hall
Zhu-cheng-wen memorial hall is located in the cross of Jhongjheng and Ren-ai road in Magong city. It was established by Mr. Hong-tsai zhu to memorize his ancestors. This hall is a 3-story building that occupies 25 pings. Mr.zhu ordered all historical relics of four generations of ancestors plus his own collections of mottle stones and over 2000 pieces of relics over the past 20 years. Utensils and models of cakes of Mr.zhu’s own cake shop are displayed on the first floor. Mottle stones are presented on the second floor. On third floor, ceremics from Chou dynasty to ching dynasty are displayed.
Erkan village
Erkan village has been well developed under the plan and hardwork of the association. The spared space has been made good use of, and community traditional museum, between-tide zone hall, living cultural relics hall, kid toy hall, and sea cockroach breeding hall have been opened one by one. This is where traditional culture and relics of Penghu are kept, displayed and lived. Currently more small but delicate cultural halls are developed. This village is definitely a great place for you to come and find out its traditional cultural temperament.
